”Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20
When we are comfortable sitting down in our couch at home, minding our own business in the kitchen or working intensely at the computer and a knock on the door resounds through the house, a number of things can happen when we stop what we are doing and walk towards the door:
- A person that we don’t know is on the other side of the door and we don’t want to open it because we don’t feel comfortable with the unknown or we feel importunate by someone that might want to sell us some product.
- We don’t know the person on the other side but we give him/her the chance by opening the door and listening to their request, excusing ourselves politely when he think we heard enough.
- We recognize the person on the other side; maybe the neighbour down the street or the lady from the grocery store and we wonder what that person might want with us at that moment. We open the door and give ears to his/her request, feeling some level of trust, since we’ve met them before and know something about him/her.
- We see a family member, a good friend, a loved one on the other side of the door and we eagerly open it and invite him/her in, offering our house and our table for some time of communion.
Our spiritual journey is very similar. You might not know Jesus, so you feel importunate by the unknown. You don’t want an outsider imposing something on you. Maybe you have heard some things about Jesus and you give Him enough credit to listen to Him again. For other people, they might have met Jesus somewhere, but they wonder what He could possibly want with them personally, and out of curiosity and wonder they slowly open their lives to Him. Others know Jesus and are developing this relationship, going from one level of intimacy to the next, which explains why they keep on opening the door to Him. They have experienced the Friend, the Saviour, the Counsellor and they know how precious it is to share this life giving nourishment with Him.
Today we invite you to start your journey or continue on it. Consider your life, think about your ways; keep walking in a step-by-step pace. We are here to walk with you in your journey and partner with you in this expedition. It all starts with a movement: open the door to a new life in Christ.
If you would like to accept this invitation, make this prayer: God, I don't understand everything about this journey and this pursuit. But i commit myself to keep on seeking You and to let You guide me in this walk. I want to know you Jesus, reveal Yourself to me. Thank you for hearing my prayer. Amen.
